OVERVIEW
Basement waterproofing works were carried out to these two Grade 11 listed buildings. Work was extensive to install a new cavity drainage system, install a waterproofing system to floors and walls and improve the below ground drainage system.
Mechanical and electrical systems were upgraded which included air handling units within internal lightwells, adding to the logistical challenges that this unique site presented.
Fit out works followed to the fitness suite beneath the leisure centre, and the function suite beneath the library. Both buildings remained in full occupation on the above floors throughout.
Malcolm McMichael from WCC Commented:
“Standage have recently completed works for Westminster City Council to basement areas at the Porchester Leisure Centre and adjoining Paddington Library. Despite some challenging, unexpected ground conditions works were carried out diligently, on program, to a high degree of quality and with effective management of Health and Safety both on the actual works and in respect of operating within buildings which remained open to the public during the contract period.”
